Optician
Full-Time
Will rotate between East Boston and South Boston sites.
The Optician is responsible for the daily operations of the dispensary, assisting customers/patients aged 2 – 100 in their selection and fitting of frames. He/she is also responsible for making glasses, controlling inventory and equipment, and grinding and dispensing eyeglasses.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with the selection and fitting of frames.
- Accurately records and tracks all orders in MVE.
- Accurately cut the lens with minimal waste and assemble the glasses.
- Fits and adjusts frames. Performs a full range of repairs as needed.
- Inspects all eyewear prior to sending to the Dispensary.
- Maintains an appropriate level of supplies for the Eye Lab and Dispensary.
- Keeps the Director informed of price changes by suppliers.
- Assists with annual review of pricing structure.
- Maintains the Eye Lab equipment.
- Keeps the Dispensary and work areas neat and stocked with a variety of frame designs.
- Ensures timely turnaround of eyeglass orders.
- Interacts with patients and other staff professionally and respectfully, which reflects the needs and concerns of the individual.

- Reads, understands, and complies with all Standards of Conduct, JCAHO policies, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at NeighborHealth.
- Upholds procedures and systems to safeguard the company.
- Confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
- Upholds safety policies, practices, and procedures, including safety, fire safety, electrical safety, proper body mechanics and material handling, office/ergonomic safety, and other employee safety measures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Graduation from a Certified Optician program or equivalent experience, and a license.
- There needs to be knowledge and skill in lens grinding, the optical field, and eyeglass dispensing. Bilingual skills preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least one year of prior relevant work experience
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
- Customer service skills.
- Familiarity with the use of a personal computer in a Windows environment is preferred.
