Optician
Full-Time
Will rotate between East Boston and South Boston sites.

The Optician is responsible for the daily operations of the dispensary, assisting customers/patients aged 2 – 100 in their selection and fitting of frames. He/she is also responsible for making glasses, controlling inventory and equipment, and grinding and dispensing eyeglasses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist patients with the selection and fitting of frames.
Accurately records and tracks all orders in MVE.
Accurately cut the lens with minimal waste and assemble the glasses.
Fits and adjusts frames. Performs a full range of repairs as needed.
Inspects all eyewear prior to sending to the Dispensary.
Maintains an appropriate level of supplies for the Eye Lab and Dispensary.
Keeps the Director informed of price changes by suppliers.
Assists with annual review of pricing structure.
Maintains the Eye Lab equipment.
Keeps the Dispensary and work areas neat and stocked with a variety of frame designs.
Ensures timely turnaround of eyeglass orders.
Interacts with patients and other staff professionally and respectfully, which reflects the needs and concerns of the individual.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

Reads, understands, and complies with all Standards of Conduct, JCAHO policies, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at NeighborHealth.
Upholds procedures and systems to safeguard the company.
Confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
Upholds safety policies, practices, and procedures, including safety, fire safety, electrical safety, proper body mechanics and material handling, office/ergonomic safety, and other employee safety measures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or G.E.D.
Graduation from a Certified Optician program or equivalent experience, and a license.
There needs to be knowledge and skill in lens grinding, the optical field, and eyeglass dispensing. Bilingual skills preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

At least one year of prior relevant work experience

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
Customer service skills.
Familiarity with the use of a personal computer in a Windows environment is preferred.
